Seeking Hopkinton’s Eldest Citizen

The Town of Hopkinton is seeking its oldest citizen to be presented with a commemorative “Boston Post Cane”. The presentation of the cane is an honor that has been bestowed on the Town’s eldest citizen beginning in 1909. The tradition began when Edward Grozier, publisher of the Boston Globe, thought of distributing gold-headed canes to the oldest residents of New England communities.

The only requirement is that a resident be 90 years of age or older. When nominating an individual, please provide the name, proof of birth and residence address of the prospective candidate. Names of candidates should be sent to the Town Clerk’s Office, 1 Town House Road, Hopkinton, RI 02833 or by phone at 377-7777 or by email:

Deadline for submission: November 30, 2017
