The Recreation Department provides parks and recreation programs and services for the town. We strive to offer a variety of activities and programs for all ages.

We manage the Crandall House and Recreation Building, Crandall Field, and Langworthy Field.

Challenger Soccer-Mini Camp!  The fantastic coaches from Challenger Soccer will offer a six-week soccer program for children ages 3-8.  The basic skills of soccer will be taught through fun activities and drills.  This is not a soccer league.  Sessions will run on Mondays September 14th through October 26th (no session on Columbus Day, October 12th) at Crandall Field in Ashaway.  Times and registration fees are as follows: 3 & 4 yr. olds 4:15-5:00P ($55R $58NR); 5-8 yr. olds 5-6:30P ($75R $80NR).  Children must bring their own soccer ball.  All campers will receive a Challenger T-Shirt!  

Challenger Soccer-First Kicks:  An exciting program that teaches basic soccer skills while developing strength, balance, coordination, listening skills and teamwork in children ages 2-4 is being offered at Crandall Field.  Licensed professional British soccer staff will engage children in physical activity through fun games.  The curriculum was devised by soccer experts, child development professionals and experienced coaches.  Four-week sessions will run on Tuesdays at Crandall Field beginning September 15th-October 6th from 9:30-10:15AM.  All players will receive a Challenger T-Shirt, soccer ball and certificate. The registration fees are $42 for residents, $45 non-residents. 
Intermediate Volleyball for Grades 5-8 This program is for boys and girls with some experience playing volleyball.  Practices will be held at Chariho High School on Saturdays from 4-5:15pm,  September 19-October 31 (no session Columbus Day weekend, Oct. 10th)   Former Brown University and URI coach/player Cathy Fulford is the lead instructor. Registration fees are $55 Residents/$58 Non Residents.
Art Classes with Audrey Green – BFA, Ed.M.: Children will explore and learn about different materials and techniques and how to create various drawings and 3-dimentional pieces. Art projects will be based on several artists, styles, literature, cultures and the environment. Music and stories will be incorporated into the program to enhance creativity.  The classes are designed to familiarize students with fundamentals in creating art and to cater to the individual visions of each student. Children ages 6 to 12 are welcome.  Classes are Fridays, September 18-October 30, from 4:00 to 5:30pm in the lower level of the Crandall House.  Registration fees are $40 for residents and $45 for non-residents.  There is a 10 student limit per class.

Babysitting Class:  Saturday, September 19th from 9:00AM-3:30PM at the Crandall Field Activities Center.  Learn how to be a great babysitter!  This course is fast paced, interactive and fun with lots of “hands on” practice using adult and infant manikins. Games and role play are used throughout the program to enhance learning. The course is taught by registered nurses who are certified AHA CPR/First Aid Instructors. Topics include Adult/child/infant/CPR, choking, use of an AED, changing and feeding a baby, babysitting safety and prevention of injury, elements of first aid for the young child, stages of child development/games and activities to play, getting your babysitting business started. The class is recommended for students 11 years and older and limited to 12 per class. Students must bring snacks, drink and a lunch; Fees are $70 for Hopkinton residents; $75 for non-residents.
Dramatic Arts for Children:  Children will participate in exercises and games that foster the skills needed to perform in front of an audience.  Sessions are held in the Activities Center at Crandall Field on Mondays September 28-November 9 (no class on October 12th).  Children ages 5-7 meet from 4:15-5:30PM and children ages 8-12 year olds from 5:45-7PM.  The registration fee is $70 for Hopkinton residents and $75 for non-residents.   The instructor is Diane Bentley.    

Fun with Fashion: Do you have a knack for style?  Make your own fashion statement while developing self-confidence and style by modeling your own favorite outfits.  Weekly themes will challenge your imagination. The six-week session will culminate in a Fashion Field Trip or the class version of Project Runway!  All children ages 8-12 are welcome.  Sessions will be held in the Activities Center Studio on Thursdays beginning October 1-November 5 from 6-7:30pm.  The registration fee is $55 for Hopkinton residents and $58 for non-residents or $10 per class. Diane Bentley is the instructor.
